A Logistic Regression Analysis to Assist Welfare Recipients Attaining Employment

DOI: doi.org/10.32861/jssr.72.75.91
Abstract
This study reports on an experiment using logistic regression to uncover the preponderant factors influencing the likelihood of attaining employment by a welfare recipient in Broward County, Florida. Our study considers whether profiling the participants and tailoring the workforce development services based on their respective profiles can increase their likelihood of finding employment (Black  et al., 2003).  The study finds that our econometric model predicted the probability of employment with reasonably strong reliability. This finding is in alignment with the Welfare Profiling Model of Michigan’s (Barnow  et al., 2012; Eberts, 1997;2002) and the Factors Influencing AFDC Duration and Labor Market Outcomes Research Study of Texas (Schexnayder  et al., 1991). More specifically, the results indicate that education and prior employment history are significant factors increasing the likelihood of departing from welfare and achieving employment. Furthermore, the study concludes that the number of children, participant’s age, and the ethnicity of the welfare recipient also play a role in breaking away from welfare.   The results from the experiment show that using the econometric model to assign services to individuals increases the likelihood of finding employment from 11% to 24% on average. This is a very encouraging finding since it motivates researchers to perform further research in this area of study.

An Econometric Analysis of the Effects of the Job Training Partnership Act on Self-Sufficiency

Authors: Jorge N. Zumaeta
Pages: 66-74
DOI: doi.org/10.32861/jssr.72.66.74
Abstract
The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the likelihood of a Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) participant getting a job placement after receiving training, and to identifying the factors that affect the attainment of self-sufficiency (Bloom and Charles, 2001; Friedlander, 1988; Gueron and Edward, 1991). Additionally, the research study focuses on learning more about the determinants of the wage rate at the time when a participant gets a placement.
This study has found that successful completion of training combined with prior work experience are the most important factors that affect the chance of getting a job placement. This finding is consistent with Eberts (2002) and Schexnayder  et al. (1991). Furthermore, the results show that the most significant variables affecting self-sufficiency are (1) completion of long-term training and (2) reading ability. An additional finding of the study is that if the participant is a recipient of food stamps, then his/her probability of achieving self-sufficiency decreases.  Our study’s main contribution is the identification of significant variables to be included in the development of workforce policies aiming at promoting economic self-sufficiency and mitigating poverty in Florida.

Abstract
The success in managing the Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi tour by providing quality services and facilities that can be determined by developing these tourist destinations. Purpose Want to know tourist satisfaction factors and analysis of the most dominant factors in influencing tourist satisfaction Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi. The population is the guests who stay at the Geopark Cileutuh Sukabumi. Samples were taken as many as 100 tourist respondents using the Non-Probability Sampling technique. The research method used was the Accidental sampling approach, namely the technique of determining the sample based on chance, that is, who happened to meet the researcher can be sampled if deemed suitable. Based on statistical data analysis, the indicators in this study are valid and the variables are reliable. Conclusion on testing the classical assumptions, multicolonierity-free regression model, heteroscedasticity does not occur, and is normally distributed. The order of each individual variable with the most influence is regression coefficient variable 0.316, regression coefficient 0.271, regression coefficient responsiveness 0.201, and regression coefficient reliability of 0.197 while the variable that has the greatest influence, low with a regression coefficient of 0.165. So from these results, the Cileutuh Sukabumi Geopark needs to maintain in terms of service on several components that are considered by tourists to be good and need to fix and improve things that are still lacking in the element of service.
