When Diapers are Erotic: Investigation of 197 People with Adult-Baby-Syndrome (Autonepophilia)
Authors: Erich Kasten
Pages: 37-48
DOI: doi.org/10.32861/ijhms.103.37.48
Abstract
Goal: Autonepophilia is a behaviour of adults in which people behave like toddlers. They wear diapers, suck on pacifiers and love it to be cared for from other people. Often an erotic component is involved and urinating into the diaper is connected with sexual arousal. Currently only a small number of studies exist about the AB/DL-syndrome (adult baby / diaper lovers). This study aimed to characterize causes in the development and typical behaviours of affected persons. Method: Data were collected in social networks and online communities for adult baby / diaper lovers. A sample of 184 male and 13 female participants with AB/DL behaviour was recruited and compared with a not-affected control group (158 male and 13 female). Primarily a questionnaire was used, which was developed to collect data about this syndrome by the authors. In addition the elements of the „Giessen-Test-II“ (GT-II, Beckmann et al.) and the „Need Inventory of Sensation Seeking“ (NISS, Hamelstein et al.) were used. Results: Data support a psychodynamic, behavioural and biopsychological explanation for AB/DL behaviour. Predisposing factors were the absence of a secure attachment object, lower stimulation in the anal stage, associations between infant care and first sexual arousal, enuresis and testosterone deficiency. The main motive was the reduction of stress and tensions. In contrast to the short excitement, in a long term practicing of AB/DL led to strong feelings of humiliation and shame. Moreover, AB/DL affected individuals had fewer, shorter and poorer-qualities of partnerships compared to the control group. No significant differences were found with respect to the expression of docility or sensation seeking. Conclusion: The study shows evidence of a psychodynamic explanation for the Adult Baby Syndrome. The absence of a safe attachment object and understimulation in the anal phase of development were identified as possible predisposing factors. In combination with the fact, that AB/DL sufferers more often come from divorced and adoptive families, it can be assumed that the origin of this behaviour is in the external circumstances of childhood and youth.

Abstract
The objective of this review is to explore the impact of digitalization on periodontics, with a particular focus on its role in enhancing both diagnosis and treatment. Drawing from a range of recent technological advancements, the study reviews the implementation of advanced imaging techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical practice. Key digital tools such as cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), digital intraoral scanners, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and 3D printing are examined for their contributions to the field. The results indicate that the integration of CBCT and digital intraoral scanners enables precise early detection of periodontal diseases, while AI refines diagnostics through predictive analytics and facilitates personalized treatment plans. Additionally, CAD/CAM and 3D printing technologies support minimally invasive procedures and the creation of custom dental prosthetics, leading to improved patient outcomes. Overall, the review highlights the significant potential of digital tools to optimize clinical workflows and elevate patient care standards, in alignment with contemporary policies aimed at advancing healthcare through technology.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the pain related secondary outcomes associated with cold tonsillectomy and role of topical sucralfate to reduce their intensity. Material and Methods: This comparative observational study was conducted in the ENT department of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (P.I.M.S.), affiliated with the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad, spanned from December 2016 to August 2017, following institutional ethical approval. The study comprised 112 patients with recurrent tonsillitis, evenly assigned to group A (subjects) and group B (control). Tonsillectomy, employing the cold steel dissection method, was administered to all patients. Group A received 10ml of topical sucralfate every 8 hours on the zero and first postoperative days, while group B received a placebo. Comparative analysis between the groups focused on pain-related secondary outcomes, including referred otalgia and the ability to initiate a regular oral diet on the morning of the first postoperative day. SPSS version 21 facilitated data analysis, with significance set at p < 0.005. Results: In group A, the mean age was 12.14±5.17, and in group B, it was 11.53±3.95, resulting in an overall mean age of 11.83±4.59 for both groups. Among 112 patients, 55.4% (n=62) were male, and 44.6% (n=50) were female. The frequency of referred earache was significantly lower in group A (15, 26.8%) compared to group B (25, 54.6%) [n1=n2=56, p=0.049]. Intolerance to start a normal diet was significantly lower in group A (17, 30.4%) compared to group B (39, 69.6%) at the first post-op day [n1=n2=56, p=0.034].Conclusion: Utilizing topical sucralfate alongside other pain management strategies proves to be an effective approach in reducing the intensity of pain related secondary complication i.e. referred otalgia and intolerance to oral intake among patients undergoing tonsillectomy using the cold steel dissection technique.

Abstract
Background: Previous studies have demonstrated the positive impact of yoga and deep breathing exercises on overall physical wellness. The effects of deep breathing alone on metabolic rate, weight, and cholesterol management have not been studied well. Objective: This study assessed changes in weight and metabolic markers following a 30-day intervention of a 12-minute deep breathing program. Methods: Sixty-six participants with a BMI >27 kg/m2 and 18-70 years were enrolled in this study. Participants were assigned to either the control or intervention group in a single-blinded manner. The intervention group followed the novel deep breathing program, while the control group did not modify their lifestyle or exercise. Anthropometric measurements and metabolic markers were evaluated and compared between the two groups after 30 days. Results: After 30 days, the control group exhibited no significant change in mean weight. The intervention group showed a significant mean weight reduction of 1.3 kg. The intervention group experienced a remarkable average decrease of 22.53 mg/dL in cholesterol levels, while the control group had an increase of 7.2 mg/dL. The 12-minute deep breathing sessions were associated with a significant increase in growth hormone and lung function. It was also associated with decreased glycosylated haemoglobin, creatine, inflammatory markers, and cholesterol levels. Conclusion: A guided deep breathing program can lead to reductions in markers of obesity among clinically overweight patients, even without additional lifestyle modifications. Further investigations are warranted to explore the effects of novel deep breathing programs on metabolic markers and elucidate the underlying mechanisms of weight loss.
